INSPIRE - Annex III - Environmental Monitoring Facilities - (Bio) Macrobenthos 2021

Description

Macroinvertebrates are one of the four biological quality elements considered in the assessment of the ecological status/potential of surface water bodies. The assessment based on aquatic flora is carried out using five classes: high (blue), good (green), moderate (yellow), poor (orange), and bad (red). Macroinvertebrates are sensitive to hydromorphology and water quality, as well as to the hydrological regime, biological continuity, and the acidification of surface waters.
